As an APM affiliate, we want to be sure that you are aware of the fresh, creative, and original programming produced by On Being. During the next couple of weeks, On Being will feed two shows that capture the breadth and depth of the award-winning program; W.E.B. Du Bois is a compelling addition to the ongoing coverage of Mississippi Freedom Summer and the Civil Rights 50th Anniversary milestones and Revealing Ramadan was created from the contributions of Muslim public radio listeners and brings this religious holiday to life through human stories.
W.E.B. Du Bois and Revealing Ramadan are available to air to ALL APM affiliate stations. These two programs will feed as normal to current On Being carrying stations but stations that do not currently carry On Being can gain access to the feeds by subscribing to the On Being – specials page in Content Depot. Promos will also be available to help promote these two programs.
W.E.B. Du Bois
W.E.B. Du Bois is one of the most celebrated Black intellectuals of American and global history. He was a prolific writer on sociology, history, economics, and politics. He was the first black man to receive a doctorate from Harvard University and he also co-founded the NAACP. He was born five years after the “Emancipation Proclamation” and died on the eve of the March on Washington.
Through conversations with scholar Arnold Rampersad and poet Elizabeth Alexander, as well as an interview with the late Dr. Maya Angelou, recorded just three weeks before her death, we explore Du Bois imprint on the American soul – and the way his passionate and poetic intelligence might enliven 21st Century life on the color line and beyond it.
This program will feed July 10th and is available to air until December 31st.
Revealing Ramadan
As we move into the middle of Ramadan, we share personal stories from Islam’s holiest month. We invited 14 Muslims to tell us what it means to observe Ramadan today, as Americans, in spiritual terms and in their everyday lives.
They range in age from their teens to their 70s and live all throughout the country – from California to Texas, Florida to New Jersey, some born as Muslims, others converts from other faiths. Together they embody the multiplicity and singularity of this tradition of 1.6 billion people.
This program will feed July 17th and is available to air until July 28th.
