This occasional program from the Newshour team now expands to a weekly edition, airing Friday at 0200 ET with repeats on Saturday at 0000 ET and 1500 ET, and on Sunday at 1100 ET. Presented by Owen Bennett-Jones, Newshour Extra offers in-depth analysis and reportage from the BBC’s global network of editors and correspondents, plus expert analysis on a story or trend of importance from the week. Past programs covered issues including the meaning of blasphemy in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo murders, experiencing life under sanctions in Iran, and the aftermath of the military school attack in Peshawar, Pakistan.

CHANGES TO EXISTING PROGRAMS:

World Have Your Say
BBC broadcast time change: World Have Your Say moves from 1300 ET to 1000 ET Monday to Friday

We have changed the timing of World Have Your Say to create an arc of programmes which includes Outside Source, Newshour and World Have Your Say. Each works as a standalone programme, and together complement each other. Outside Source sets the real-time news agenda, Newshour follows it with news-making interviews and analysis on the key stories, and World Have Your Say draws in the audience and a range of voices of people affected by a story or with insight to add.

In the Balance and The Food Chain
We are drawing In the Balance and The Food Chain into one schedule slot, alternating each week, under the common theme of business – offering greater variety within the overall strand. The Food Chain explores stories and issues in the world and business of food, while In the Balance offers discussion by experts of the biggest business and economic stories of the week.

The Essential
The Essential will no longer be available on Friday. It moves to a Monday – Thursday offer.

Outlook Arts
Outlook Arts will no longer be available. Our wider arts programming continues with The Arts Hours, Global Beats, Arts Daily and World Book Club.

Duration changes:
The World This Week and Tech Tent both change duration from 26 minutes 30 seconds to 23 minutes
