BBC Schedule Update: Weekend of Aug. 1

BBC World Service has two program updates for this weekend.

1) World Book Club: Jeanette Winterson
** Please note this program will not observe the standard BBC clock. ** It will air Saturday, August 1 at 1800 ET with repeats at 2300 ET on August 1 and 0200 ET on August 5.

In August’s World Book Club, there’s another chance to hear Harriett Gilbert talking to bestselling British writer Jeanette Winterson about her hugely acclaimed novel Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit.

2) The Documentary: The Polonium Trail
This program’s broadcast is being moved up. It will air the following times:
Saturday, August 1, at 1400 ET (in place of The Conversation)
Sunday, August 2, at 0700 ET (in place of HARDtalk)
Tuesday, August 4, at 1230 ET and subsequent repeats of The Documentary

The former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko died in a London hospital in 2006, after drinking tea poisoned with the highly radioactive material – polonium. But who wanted him dead, and why? And where did his killers get the polonium from?

A year ago the British Government established a judicial Inquiry to investigate. As the Inquiry now ends its public hearings, Richard Watson investigates the murky story surrounding Alexander Litvinenko’s death.
