“The Weekend Documentary: A New Life” – a World Have Your Say special September 12-14

BBC World Service is offering a special World Have Your Say program for broadcast September 12-14 on the journey of migrants moving through Europe.

Program title:“The Weekend Documentary: A New Life” – a World Have Your Say special traveling with the migrants moving through Europe.

Program description:

For the past week the eyes of the world have been on the thousands of migrants journeying across Europe seeking refuge in Germany. It’s been described as the biggest movement of people in Europe since the Second World War – but what it is like to be on that journey?

Over the past week Ben James from World Have Your Say has been broadcasting live from the Hungarian towns and cities where migrants gathered having made their way from Syria or refugee camps in surrounding countries. From there he joined them on the train from Budapest to Munich. He hears from those on board about their individual stories, their hopes and the fears of those they have left behind. Among them was Suad, a university student from the besieged Syrian city of Homs, who wants to be reunited with her mother. “I told my mum: I miss your food,” she tell us. “I’m looking for a new life, a new job, a new home.” And it wasn’t just the migrants Ben talked to. Along the way he talked to officials, fellow passengers, those wary of the numbers now arriving at their country’s borders and to those who have been willing to open up their homes to the new arrivals.
