Upcoming Paris coverage from Marketplace

Here are details on Marketplace PM’s upcoming coverage related to Paris today, and Marketplace Morning Report plans for Tuesday.

Today Kai is doing a two-way/Q with our Stephen Beard on the implications for the European Union’s open borders apparatus – already under strain by the massive migrants crisis, security fears will further strain the philosophy undergirding the EU, which is the free flow of goods and people across borders. This presents a very real existential threat to the EU.

ISIS funds itself in several ways: taxing the citizens of seized territory, illegal sales of oil and antiquities and kidnapping ransoms. What is the budget for this terror group? And how does it convert black-market sales into hard currency? We also have Tracey Samuelson reports on this and what US agencies can and are doing to stop the flow of money.

And Kimberly Adams will examine the implications for Syrian refugees entering the US. The Obama Administration had announced a plan to take in 10,000 Syrian refugees in the current fiscal year. Already three governors have said they will not accept Syrian refugees: Texas, Alabama and Michigan. Of the three, Michigan, with its large Arab population, is the most important. But it’s unclear the states have the authority to do so. We will explain the resettlement process and the limits on the restrictions states can put in place.

For Marketplace Morning Report Tuesday, we’ll have Tracey Samuelson on another slice of the financing issues. Mark Garrison also will be looking at the immediate economic impact to tourism, etc.
