APM Celebrates – soak up summer specials

Summer months offer audiences longer, lazier days and listening experiences just right for a quiet afternoon on the porch, a long-awaited house project, or a summer road trip.

“Cinema in the Parks”

Starting August 1, “Cinema in the Parks” celebrates the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service (August 25, 2016) with music from well-known films shot in the parks, and at our national monuments and historic sites.

This new special includes film scores from North by Northwest, Star Wars, Star TrekHow the West Was Won, Rocky, E.T., Journey to the Center of the Earth, Dances with Wolves, and others. Audiences will enjoy performances by the National Philharmonic, City of Prague Philharmonic, London Symphony, Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops and more.

In addition to great film scores, host Lynne Warfel will engage listeners with NPS history, highlight where the parks make their on-screen appearances, and explain how music is used in those scenes. Parks represented include Mt. Rushmore, Grand Teton, Death Valley, Carlsbad, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Badlands, Devil’s Tower, Independence Hall and The National Mall.

“Cinema in the Parks” offers approximately 50 minutes of music, and approximately 10 minutes of commentary. Find the special, along with preview audio and promo spots, on ContentDepot.

BROADCAST WINDOW: August 1 through November 1, with multiple airings permitted.

“The Ride”

KPCC’s “The Ride” is all about modern mobility. If it moves, if you can ride in it, or on it, we’re talking about it. From radical ideas, like designing cities for people rather than cars, to exploring how our identities got so entwined with our mode of transportation and the pure joy of getting on something and going fast, The Ride takes you there in style. Come along for a ride on a custom motorbike with actor Keanu Reeves, explore our relationship with personal space on public transit, and much more.

Co-hosted by motor journalist Susan Carpenter (LA Times, OC Register) and comic Alonzo Bodden (Showtime, Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me!), this hour-long exploration of mobility is available now and makes a great companion to summer road trips. KPCC’s “The Ride includes a billboard and promo spots.

BROADCAST WINDOW: Through September 12, with multiple airings permitted.
