Roots Beyond Race – Interactive Data Tools

The APM Research Lab has developed Roots Beyond Race, a data visualization that portrays Americans’ identity through the lens of racial and ethnic backgrounds across every state. We invite your newsroom and reporters to utilize Roots Beyond Race for insights and context in support of your news reporting and storytelling.

Available as part of your APM affiliation, the data can be used until  the Census 2020 data is released in spring/summer 2021 and is available exclusively to stations until the public release on November 12, 2019.

Visit the APM Research Lab page to learn more about:

  • Ideas for reporting applications (regional identities and stereotypes, 2020 Census representation, diversity and inclusion and more)
  • Data visualizations and select findings by state and how to embed on your own sites
  • Background on the APM Research Lab team, origin of the data and FAQ’s

The APM Research Lab is available for live or pre-recorded station two-ways with Andi Egbert, Senior Research Associate.

For questions about the data, how to apply to your own reporting and communities, or to schedule time with the APM Research Lab,  contact your Station Representative.
