December Station Update

2012 NFFS Capital Revenue Needed, News from Lake Wobegon among top podcasts of the year, Performance Today features global celebration for Christmas, and more.

Important! Please report your 2012 NFFS Capital Revenue by January 31, 2014!

American Public Media has begun processing station fees and rates for APM FY15 (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015). A key first step is to verify that we have correct Total Station Revenue or TSR (FY2014 CSG + FY2012 NFFS, as reported to the CPB) for each station. This revenue is used to calculate each station’s annual APM service fee and Marketplace fee, if applicable.

Every year we contact all of you to ascertain whether any CAPITAL REVENUE is included in that year’s TSR. Capital Revenue is defined as revenue earned from capital campaigns and/or endowments as they appear in your CPB AFR report, specifically, lines 17 & 18 of Schedule A.

To correctly adjust your TSR, all stations needing to back out Capital Revenue must notify APM no later than Friday, January 31, 2014. All responses should be directed to Andrew Cleveland along with the first three pages of the AFR report that includes the Capital Revenue.

If we do not have this information by January 31, 2014 we will not be able to adjust TSR and it will impact your program fees.

If you have any questions, please contact your Station Relations Representative ASAP.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Who Gives? Audience engagement tool for your website

Marketplace has done it again. The team has created Who Gives; a new online quiz where your listeners can identify the philanthropic causes they’re passionate about. The quiz matches them with public figures that are their kindred spirits. This tool is available for you to embed on your station site.

Performance Today has Christmas covered

This year, Performance Today took suggestions from listeners on what holiday music they would like to hear this season. The team took those suggestions and created two spectacular broadcasts.  On Christmas Eve, the program will feature requested carols from performances all across the country, from Seattle to New York with Salt Lake City and Bethlehem, PA in between. Tuesday’s broadcast will also feature the world premiere of a new piece for orchestra by composer Aaron Jay Kernis.

On Wednesday, Christmas Day, Performance Today will bring listeners a global celebration of the holiday. They start with a children’s choir in Prague, a Nigerian carol performed in Chicago, then go to concerts in Latvia, Sweden, and France. The show will wrap up with a rousing, joyous conclusion from a musical performance in Montreal, Canada.

Piano Puzzler

As of February 1, 2014, the encore edition of Piano Puzzler will no longer be distributed. The segment will continue as part of Performance Today but will no longer  be available as a standalone segment.

BBC Newshour Christmas Quiz

On Christmas Day, BBC Newshour will feature its annual News Quiz in the second half of the 0800, 0900, 1500, & 1600 EST feeds.  Presenter Dan Damon has been slated as the quiz master and will challenge two teams of Newshour presenters to recall some of their best stories from 2013.

There is no change to the 0800 EST edition and that program will follow the normal BBC World Service Clock.

For the 0900, 1500, & 1600 EST feeds, the second half of the program will be unclocked from 32:30-59:00. The Business Update at 32:30-36:00 as well as the funders and cutaways from 49:00-51:00 will be removed. Stations in automation will need to change their automation.

A stand-alone version of the half hour Christmas Quiz will also be made available for stations to download from the BBC Partner Site on December 25th. It can be aired through December 31st.
