Week of March 30

Marketplace (PM)

  • For patients who fall critically ill from COVID-19, access to a ventilator could be a matter of life or death. Britain’s state-run National Health Service, however, is dangerously short of the devices. There are only a couple of manufacturers based in Britain, and foreign suppliers are now focused totally on their own domestic markets. From London, Marketplace’s Stephen Beard reports on how the British government has appealed to the UK’s engineering industry to help: to retool and start making this vital equipment in huge quantities.
