Marketplace

Week of August 31

Marketplace (PM)

  • We look at the role that Black women play in the labor market, and what would happen if policymakers focused on them. Kai talks with Janelle Jones from the Groundwork Collaborative and Professor Michelle Holder from John Jay at CUNY.
  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel is a powerful figure both in Europe’s largest economy and in the European Union. For some 15 years, she has also been an economic bulwark for Germany, guiding the nation through a continental debt crisis, the integration of a million migrants and, more recently, trade tensions with the United States. She is due to leave office next year and there is some uncertainty about who will succeed her. Marketplace’s Stephen Beard looks at her achievements and consider the challenges facing Germany after her departure.
