New BBC World Service Schedule

  • A new version of the BBC World Service summer schedule will go into effect on Saturday, September 5. Find the updated pdf here.
  • NOTE: The Climate Question, originally scheduled to begin airing on September 13, has been postponed.

  • Kai talks with Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings. His new book is called No Rules Rules: Netflix and the Culture of Reinvention.
  • Kai talks with food historian Emelyn Rude about the history of takeout, how it got us to where we are today, and some of the socioeconomic forces at play.

  • September 7: Why are laptops for school still so expensive?  Schools are scrambling to get enough laptops for students are they move to remote learning, and the cheaper Chromebooks they want are in short supply.
  • September 8: Social media can be critical to informing, supporting and connecting small, rural communities. That’s especially true now, with the pandemic. Those groups have become a resource for some communities, as people look for information about COVID-19; though, they can also be very divisive.

September 7: On Labor Day, The Daily will air an encore broadcast of the episode A Missed Warning About the Silent Coronavirus, which looks at why an early scientific report from a German doctor – of how seemingly health people could spread the coronavirus – went unheeded.

Performance Today

September 10: As part of a new Thursday feature that highlights listener feedback, Performance Today will broadcast an all-time listener favorite piece: Azul by Osvaldo Golijov.

SymphonyCast

UPDATE: Now that the BBC Proms have announced their plans for 2020, SymphonyCast plans to air 3 programs this year. BBC Proms concerts will be featured on SymphonyCast for the September 14, 21 and 28 episodes.  View the updated July-September program listings here for more details.

Live from Here

A reminder that Live from Here will be ceasing production and distribution this fall. Encore episodes will air for 2 more weeks, with the final episode scheduled for September 12, 2020. Once that air window expires the following Saturday, September 19, the ContentDepot page will be removed to avoid missing file alerts. Please make the necessary adjustments to accommodate this change.
