BBC Interim/Summer Schedules

Please note the upcoming changeover coming to the BBC World Service later this month: the transition to Interim/Summer schedules to account for daylight saving time. The BBC has also launched a two new programs: Ros Atkins on… and Deeply Human, a partnership between the BBC, American Public Media, and iHeartMedia. BBC World Service Schedule Changes

Given differences between the U.S. and U.K. in daylight saving time schedules, the BBC World Service will be on a temporary interim schedule prior to the summer schedule.

The 2021 interim summer schedule is effective Sunday, March 14, 2021 through Saturday, March 27, 2021.

Interim summer schedule highlights:

  • Most programs shift forward one hour.
  • Newshour
    • Weekday editions remain the same, with an extra edition at 5 p.m. ET.
    • Weekend 4 p.m. ET editions remain consistent during the interim schedule week.
    • Weekend 8 a.m. ET editions shift one hour to 9 a.m. ET
  • Editions of BBC OS move forward one hour to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. ET.

The 2021 summer schedule is effective Sunday, March 28 through Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Summer schedule highlights:

  • Core news programs (Newshour, Newsday, BBC OS) remain consistent with previous schedules.
  • Existing editions of The Newsroom will remain consistent, except for the 5 p.m. ET edition which shifts one hour to 6 p.m. ET as in previous summer schedules.
    • Additional editions of The Newsroom will be added back into the schedule at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET

New Program: Ros Atkins on…

Ros Atkins on… sees Ros bring his straight-talking, distinctive style of analysis and explanation to BBC World Service radio, as he distils one of the big issues in the news into nine minutes. The show is both personal and global, showing both the big picture and the small details, and it talks directly to the listener in a way that explains, engages and entertains.

Presenter, Ros Atkins: Ros Atkins is a senior BBC News anchor who hosted on BBC World Service radio for many years and is now the anchor and creator of the innovative primetime programme Outside Source on BBC World News television. He lives in south-east London with his wife and two daughters.

APM, BBC and iHeartMedia collaboration – Deeply Human

The BBC World Service, iHeartMedia, and American Public Media have jointly announced a new collaboration, Deeply Human. Hosted by writer and musician Dessa, the show strives to answer questions about the inner self: why we do the things we do and how the brain guides us and plays tricks on us. Deeply Human will be available on the BBC World Service starting in March. Listen to a preview of Deeply Human and see it on the BBC World Service schedule.
