Marketplace (PM)

  • For our United States of Work Series, Kai talks with Stephanie Silverman at the Belcourt Theatre about the return to a normal-ish movie release calendar.

Marketplace Tech

  • November 22: Guest host Jed Kim talks with an expert about sustainable air fuels.
  • Kimberly Adams hosts November 23-26.

On Point

  • November 22: President Biden’s Infrastructure Act puts $8 billion toward combating drought and preserving water systems in the west. On Point explores how that money could and should be spent and what impact it will have.
  • November 25 (encore): Just in time for Thanksgiving, On Point revisits our episode exploring the science behind good listening. What makes listening so difficult and why that matters, from the personal to the political.
  • November 26 (encore): Meghna speaks with journalist George Packer who has reported on strife and division around the world. Now, he trains his eye homeward, and finds an America divided into four factions: market enthralled Free America; meritocratic Smart America; aggrieved Real America; and the impatient, rigid young activists of Just America.

The Daily

  • November 25: On Thanksgiving Day, The Daily will re-run the episode ” A City’s Steps Towards Reparations,” which originally ran on July 12 and tells the story of how Evanston, IL became the first American city to approve a compensation program intended to address historical racism and discrimination.
  • November 26: The Daily will run an updated encore episode of “Why Mexico Is Suing US Gunmakers,” which originally ran on August 24 and looks at how Mexican officials are taking their arguments against lax U.S. gun control, and the effect it’s had on their country, to U.S. Federal Court.

Performance Today

  • November 25: Performance Today will have a special Thanksgiving show, featuring music by American composers and their vision of America (including composers Rick Sowash, Florence Price and Jennifer Higdon), and a celebration of the spirit of autumn.

Time Machine from The Current

November 26 – 1989

  • The year that the tacky lil’ dance band from Athens, Georgia, B-52’s, released their best-selling album. Tom Petty dropped his Full Moon Fever album while his Traveling Wilburys bandmate Roy Orbison’s comeback album Mystery Girl was released two months after his passing. Love and Rockets had one of the year’s most unlikely hits, we were doing the Wild Thing to Tone Loc, Janet Jackson headed to Minneapolis to record Rhythm Nation 1814, with Prince protegee’s Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and the Pixies hit the big time with their Dolittle CD.
  • Outside the world of music, The Berlin Wall came down, George HW Bush took office and an earthquake hit San Francisco minutes before game 1 of the World Series between the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants.

Guests include David Chang and Priya Krishna authors of Cook at Home: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Recipes (And Love My Microwave), Pati Jinich of PBS’ award-winning series Pati’s Mexican Table, Kenji Lopez Alt of Serious Eats and author of The Wok Recipes and Techniques and baker Cheryl Day author of Cheryl Day’s Treasury of Southern Baking.”
  • Files will be available by Wednesday, November 24 via Dropbox – subscribe to the page to receive alerts and updates, and let your APM Station Relations Representative know if you’d like to carry the program before it is fed live at noon ET on November 25.

  • We talk to Priya Parker, author of The Art of the Gathering, about the things we should be focusing on when planning get-togethers, whether that’s virtual or not.

Amazon: The Prime Effect

Broadcast Window: November 8, 2021 – January 9, 2022

Length: Three hour-long episodes

Amazon: The Prime Effect is an in depth series exploring the myriad ways Amazon is changing the ways we shop, work and live. All three episodes are currently available through the first week of January. Visit the ContentDepot page here.

  • Episode 1: What is Amazon? We dive deep on the structure of Amazon, the invisible strings that tie together the parts, and why those parts create something the government is keeping its eye on.
  • Episode 2: Who is Jeff Bezos? We explore Amazon founder Jeff Bezos; who he is, what makes him tick, and how he created an innovation-obsessed culture that led to Amazon’s explosive growth.
  • Episode 3: Amazon’s workforce. We work our way up the ladder at Amazon–starting with warehouse workers describing conditions during Covid to a corporate designer fired for speaking out against the company to Amazon’s vice president of workforce development.
