2018 BBC Proms Programming

APM is thrilled to showcase the most memorable performances of the 2018 BBC Proms, the UK’s annual celebration of classical music from London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Available to all stations:
SymphonyCast will broadcast 10 concerts, in their entirety, excluding the last night of Proms, which will be cut for time. All concerts will follow the standard SymphonyCast clock (1:59).

Hosted by Alison Young, these 10 programs are available to all APM affiliate stations, free of charge via ContentDepot. These are regular weekly feeds, and open for all Proms concerts. Promo spots will be also available via ContentDepot.

Available to BBC stations:
BBC World Service will broadcast 7 highlight programs of Proms concerts, from Saturday, July 28 through Friday, September 14. Each hour-long episode will be hosted by a BBC Radio 3 classical music presenter. These highlight programs make great complements to the full concerts from SymphonyCast.

These programs are available for broadcast to all current BBC World Service affiliate stations through APM.

BBC World Service will broadcast 7 highlight programs of Proms concerts, from next Saturday, July 29 through Friday, September 15. This year’s highlights include Handel’s Water Music, Bernstein’s On the Waterfront, a centenary tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie, and more.

Each hour-long episode will be hosted by a BBC Radio 3 classical music presenter, and feature conversations with special guests on the themes, composers and performers, along with the context in which the music was written and performed. These highlight programs make great complements to the full concerts from SymphonyCast.

  • Broadcast Times: Broadcast times on BBC World Service are Saturdays at 14:06ET, repeating Sundays at 07:06ET.
  • Broadcast Windows: Each program is available for 7 days.
  • Length: 49:30 (23:00 and 26:30), or 59:00 each, including News Bulletins, billboards and promos.
  • Clock: Proms programs will not follow the BBC World Service clock; no breaks at the bottom of the hour.

New Classical Special Celebrates JFK

Available April 29 – May 31, “From Casals to Camelot: Classical Music and John F. Kennedy” features performances by musicians invited to the White House during JFK’s presidency, as well as music composed in response to the Kennedy assassination, and for JFK events and anniversaries. Preview audio is available April 15.

Hosted by Andrea Blain, this new, one-hour special commemorates the 100th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s birth, and explores how classical music featured during his presidency has become a potent means of remembering an American era that was both hopeful, and tinged with tragedy. Learn more.

New Memorial Day Music Special

Available May 5-31, “Dreams of the Fallen: Music of Honor and Remembrance for Memorial Day,” presents a broad variety of music, spoken remembrances, and poetry. Hosted by Steve Seel, this one-hour special features pieces by Jake Runestad, Trinity Choir, Dallas Wind Symphony, the U.S. Marine band, and more; music of Samuel Barber, J.S. Bach, Benjamin Britten, and others; poetry of Brian Turner and Walt Whitman. Learn more.

“Dreams of the Fallen: Music of Honor and Remembrance for Memorial Day,” is a new offering from APM Honors. This subset of the APM Celebrates package covers topics that require more reflection than ‘celebration’, such as Veterans Day. These programs are available as part of the larger package.

Roll Out the Red Carpet for Your Listeners

Just in time for Oscars season, our new special celebrates movie music.

“The Movies & The Music: A history of Oscar-winning film music,” is a three-part, three-hour series featuring the greatest Oscar-winning scores – from the first statuette in 1934 to the present day.

Available through March 1, “The Movies & The Music” offers audiences musical history and context before the red carpet rolls out for The Academy Awards on February 26. Learn more about this latest offering in our APM Celebrates package.

New specials celebrate movie music, honor survivors

This month, we’re pleased to share two new classical music specials:

Available now through March 1, “The Movies & The Music” features movie history and Oscar-winning film scores from the 1930s to today.

Available January 22 through May 1, “Kaddish” features conversations with Holocaust survivors, and works by composers whose lives were, in some way, touched by the Holocaust.
