France’s Jews and Nigeria Attacks on World Have Your Say

Chloe Tilley presents World Have Your Say today at 1300ET.

France – Do Jews still have a future there?

France has taken dramatic measures to reassure its Jewish community in the wake of last week’s attacks.  From today, extra security is in place at over 700 Jewish schools.

The French Prime Minister yesterday insisted that the French Republic would be judged a failure if Europe’s largest Jewish community leave in large numbers. But all the signs are that they are considering just that.   As one Jewish representative said in Marseilles over the weekend: “Jews are anxious in France as never before. They all talk about leaving. They don’t feel safe.”

We’ll hear from a range of French Jews in today’s show. How safe do they feel? Are they more or less optimistic after yesterday’s show of unity and tolerance? Are they considering leaving France? Can Jewish life continue in France as before?

On tomorrow’s program, we’ll hear from French Muslims about their fears and hopes for the future.

Nigeria Violence

The violence in the country’s northeast has escalated dramatically over the past week.  We’ll hear reaction to the latest massacres and killings, assumed to be by the Islamist militants of Boko Haram.  And reaction to today’s plea from the Archbishop of Jos saying the world needs to help Nigeria confront Boko Haram and show the same resolve as it’s doing in France.
