Special Broadcast – The World Debate: World Economic Forum in Davos – January 26

Please note that the World Debate from the World Economic Forum in Davos will air tomorrow, Tuesday, January 26, as detailed below.

World Debate: World Economic Forum in Davos – Europe at a tipping point?
With a crisis at Europe’s borders, as it tries to control the influx of refugees and to prevent extremist attacks, how can Europe protect itself without betraying its values?

A high-profile panel of leaders and opinion-formers come together at the World Economic Forum in Davos, to debate ‘Europe at a tipping point?’ They will discuss the continuing crisis at Europe’s borders as it tries to control the influx of refugees and to prevent extremist attacks, and question how Europe can protect itself without betraying its values.

After the Paris terrorist attacks, there are increasing doubts that Europe’s passport-free open borders can survive in their current form. European solidarity is being put to the test as countries struggle to agree on common solutions, both to the migrant crisis and to the terrorism threat. Is there a price to pay if Europe decides to tighten its borders? The free movement of people, trade and capital within Europe is a basic principle of the EU. At a time when Europe and its most fundamental values are facing renewed threats from outside – can the dream of a united Europe survive?

The debate is chaired by the BBC’s chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet taking comments and questions from social media and front row VIP guests.
