New BBC Interim, Summer Schedules

Given differences in Daylight Saving Time schedules, the BBC World Service will be on a two-week interim schedule prior to the summer schedule.

The 2018 interim summer schedule is effective Sunday, March 11 through Saturday, March 24. Highlights include:

  • Weekend editions of Newshour will shift one hour. Saturday and Sunday editions will air at 9:00 am ET and 5:00 pm ET. This change occurs on Sunday, March 11, Saturday, March 17, Sunday, March 18 and Saturday, March 24.
  • Weekday editions of Newshour remain the same, with an extra edition at 5:00 pm ET.
  • BBC OS will air weekdays at 12 pm at 1 pm ET.

The 2018 summer schedule is effective Sunday, March 25 through Saturday, October 27. Highlights include:

  • Core news programs (Newshour, The Newsroom, Newsday, BBC OS) remain consistent with previous schedules.
  • The introduction of one new program: Ideas You Need To Know Now
    • This is a 9-minute program, airing Fridays at 10:50 pm ET and Saturdays at 3:50 pm ET.
    • Description: What are the really big ideas shaping our world? This new series from the BBC World Service gets the best new ideas from economics to psychology, neuroscience to philosophy, political science to anthropology, and makes them easy to inwardly digest. Each episode of Ideas You Need To Know Now outlines the big idea through the words of the person who developed the theory. In just nine minutes we offer a weekly chance to listen and feel just a little bit wiser. Presented by David Edmonds.
