Program Description: “Trumped”

Trumped moves to Europe as Donald Trump concludes his first foreign trip as President.

Anthony Zurcher, the BBC North America reporter, is joined by Susan Glasser, Chief International Affairs Columnist at Politico, and guests, to discuss President Trump’s foreign travels, as the UK approaches the general election on June 8.

Trumped explores the bigger take on what the Trump Presidency means for America and the world, using the President’s own words, in his tweets, as a starting point for a conversation at a time when we are all experiencing a new way of realising the power of the Presidency. The programme is recorded in Manchester, England, where, on Monday, a bomb killed 22 people attending a pop concert.

Program Description: “Museum of Lost Objects: Return to Aleppo”

The Museum of Lost Objects re-imagines destroyed monuments and ancient sites through memories, legends and incredible personal stories, told by the people who knew these things and places best.

We return to Iraq and Syria with Zahed Tajiddin, an architect and archaeologist whose family for generations have lived in Aleppo. The Old City – now in ruins – was known for its beautiful courtyard houses. Zahed owned one which was 500-years-old, but in 2012, when his neighbourhood was engulfed in war, he was forced to abandon it. He watched from afar as his home was turned into a battleground. He makes the emotional and dangerous journey back to see whether it survived the war. There’s sadness but also surprises under the rubble.

We also take a look at what’s left of the ancient sites of northern Iraq. Nimrud is a 3,000 year old citadel, demolished by the so-called Islamic State. Muzahim Hossein is an Iraqi archaeologist who spent 30 years excavating there. He goes back for the first time to see what managed to survive in the ruins. And we hear the story of one Iraqi family who grew up with the temples and talismans of the beautiful, fabled city of Hatra. Presented by Kanishk Tharoor.
