The BBC begins a season of programs on Freedom which will run through to April. It is the right of everyone, says the UN Charter, to have life, liberty, and security. But do we all agree on how that can be realized? Even in this ever more interconnected world agreement on how to realize these ideals remains far apart. We ask what the world now believes freedom should offer, and if it is something which we are prepared to give up in return for security, or sacrifice our lives for. Freedom has never been more prominent as an idea nor more difficult to define. BBC World Service investigates what freedom means in our lives, our work, our relationships and our hopes.
