  • December 7: On Point looks at how South Africa is tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact that the Omicron variant was first discovered there is in part due to their comprehensive testing and gene sequencing program. But the nation also faces high degrees of vaccine hesitancy and resistance, fueled by misinformation and disinformation originating in the US. What can we learn from the South African experience about how to tackle the ongoing pandemic?

December 10 – 1972

  • Stevie Wonder dominated the airwaves, The Rolling Stones made a double album masterpiece, there were soundtracks like The Harder They Come (starring Jimmy Cliff) and Superfly featured the music of Curtis Mayfield. David Bowie made an album and wrote a big hit for Mott the Hoople, Lou Reed took a walk on the wild side, and we leaned on Bill Withers while The Eagles were taking it easy.
  • Outside the world of music, The Miami Dolphins had a perfect season, it was Nixon over McGovern in a landslide and if you saw a movie, it might have been The Godfather or Deliverance.
