BBC Offers Special Program on Chuck Berry

BBC World Service is offering a special program on music icon Chuck Berry that will air during “The Documentary (Wednesday)” slot this week, replacing the scheduled edition on India’s classical music marathon. This special program, containing exclusive BBC interviews, is also available to download and broadcast from March 22 – April 19.

Program Description:
“Chuck Berry 1926-2017”

A special program dedicated to a music icon who was one of the early pioneers of rock ‘n’ roll. Containing exclusive BBC interviews, Chuck Berry recounts his childhood upbringing; how his parents instilled in him the power of poetry by often reciting verses aloud at home, his early musical influences – especially blues music and the important lessons he learned from his musical idols like Muddy Waters. We hear about his first hit with Chess Records, “Maybelline,” which tapped into a new zeitgeist – the youthful energy of an unsettled generation. Many hits followed including “Roll Over Beethoven”, “School Days”, “Sweet Little Sixteen”, and “Johnny B Goode”. There was also his signature dance, the duckwalk which the crowds loved. His influence on a new generation of music artists cannot be underestimated. His skepticism of the music industry, paved the way for African-American artists setting up their own labels and his original style of lyrical versatility and guitar twangs has changed popular music forever. Presented by Mark Coles.

Broadcast Details:
First air: Tuesday, March 21 at 8:30pm ET, repeating March 22 at 1:30pm ET, March 25 at 10:30am ET.

Broadcast window: March 22 – April 19, 2017
Duration: 26 mins 30 secs (or 30 mins including the News Update, billboard & promo).

“The Response – America’s Story” – ep. 3 available 3/18

The Response – America’s Story seeks listeners’ unique stories about the lives they lead, and their hopes for the future under the new U.S. presidency. This new BBC World Service and APM co-production shares America’s stories with the global community.

The Response – America’s Story
Episode 3: “Tell us why you, your parents, or your grandparents came to live in America”
60 minutes, Available March 18 – April 2

This month, The Response – America’s Story tackles one of President Trump’s signature issues: immigration. Contributors from a dozen states and every corner of the world tell how they got here and what they hope happens next. An Indonesian engineer loses his job and his legal status, but wins the immigration lottery and lands in Indiana. A Minnesota grandmother watches her Mexican son-in-law get picked up and then deported. A graduate student from Utah is about to get a master’s degree and go into politics, but worries she’ll be going to detention instead. Other contributors are proud to say they or their ancestors came legally, and always for a better life. The program is a remarkable array of heartfelt experiences, and a testament to both the strength and challenge of the U.S. as a diverse nation.

This latest episode is produced in San Antonio – a city known for the Alamo and its River Walk, but full of surprises, as we hear from our partners at Texas Public Radio. It’s the third in our four-part series featuring people sharing their self-recorded stories throughout President Trump’s first 100 days in office.

The program will be available on ContentDepot this Saturday, March 18. It follows a 59:00 clock (1:00 billboard, 5:00 news hole, 53:00 program) and is available to broadcast through April 2.
